An abbreviation for Advanced Micro Devices, AMD were one of the first companies to create Intel 80x86 CPU compatibles or "clones". AMD also created Pentium-alternative processors the K5 and K6, Pentium-II alternatives the K6-2 and K6-3, and Pentium-III alternative the K7 or "Athlon".
AMD also developed the 3DNow! instruction set.
